Therapy Success Story: Jerry's Journey

Saybrook Landing is proud to share the inspiring story of Jerry, a remarkable man who recently completed a successful short-term rehabilitation stay with us. From the moment he arrived, Jerry faced a tough challenge—he needed a toe amputation. But despite the circumstances, he didn’t let it bring him down.
With a big smile and a sense of humor that lit up the room, Jerry took it all in stride. After surgery, he joked with staff saying,
“They took all my piggies! Now I don’t have any piggies on that foot anymore!” And every time he worked with therapy, regaining balance and strength, he kept the mood light by referencing his "piggies." Staff would playfully ask, “
What about the one who went We We We all the way home?” and laughter would follow as Jerry pushed forward—literally and figuratively.
Jerry’s positive attitude and determination were infectious. Rather than focus on what he had lost, he chose to focus on what he could still do. He self-propelled around the facility, visited with staff and peers, and brought joy to everyone around him.
To celebrate his graduation from therapy, our team surprised Jerry with a special cake decorated with five little “piggies” and the message:
“We We We All The Way Home”—a perfect send-off for someone who never lost his spirit.
Before discharging, Jerry shared these kind words:
“Everyone here is wonderful, kind, and knows how to do their job. Everything here is fantastic. I’ve only been in one other nursing home, but this one is 100% better!”
